CBD laws in Michigan can sometimes get confusing. Some will tell you it鈥檚 perfectly legal, while others will say it isn鈥檛.

To avoid confusion, here鈥檚 what you need to know.

CBD from marijuana and hemp have been legal in Michigan since 2008 and 2018, respectively, but there are some caveats.

In this guide, we鈥檒l help you understand the CBD laws better, so you can avoid legal problems.

We鈥檒l also give you some pointers on buying the best CBD oil in Michigan and avoiding dodgy CBD producers.

Is It Legal to Buy & Use CBD Oil in Michigan?

As mentioned earlier, Michigan allows the use of CBD coming from both marijuana and hemp.

Michigan legalized marijuana for medical use in 2008. Through the state鈥檚 Compassionate Care Initiative, patients with qualifying medical conditions can register themselves into the state鈥檚 marijuana program. Once approved, they鈥檙e given a medical card and access to legal weed.

However, the only way registered patients can get legal medical marijuana is if they grew their own plants. At that time, the state prohibited dispensaries from operating.

This didn鈥檛 mean that there were no dispensaries at all in Michigan. They were still able to operate and provide services to registered patients by working within the state鈥檚 legal gray area.

In 2016, Michigan finally allowed dispensaries to operate when Governor Snyder passed several laws to regulate the state鈥檚 marijuana industry better.

A couple of years later, the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law, removing industrial hemp from the list of prohibited drugs. This means all parts of industrial hemp can now be used legally by everyone, including CBD extracted from it.

However, for industrial hemp to be legal, it should not have more than 0.3% THC. Industrial hemp plants that contain more than the legal limit of 0.3% THC will be considered marijuana.

Michigan soon aligned its laws with the federal government鈥檚 when the state approved the Industrial Hemp Research and Development Act in 2019.

Marijuana for adult use was legalized in the state in 2018. Residents who are 21 years and above can now use recreational weed legally.

In 2020, a bill was also signed into law allowing veterinarians to discuss the use of CBD and other medical marijuana products with pet owners.

Do You Need a Prescription or Medical Card to Buy CBD Oil in Michigan?

CBD Oil in Big and Small Bottle with Hemp Leaf If you鈥檙e only going to buy hemp-derived CBD oil, you won鈥檛 be asked to present a doctor鈥檚 prescription or recommendation to buy the product. You also won鈥檛 be asked to show a marijuana card.

You can buy any amount of hemp-derived CBD oil since there are no possessions limits.

If you鈥檙e of legal age, you can also buy marijuana-derived CBD oil with a higher THC level even without your doctor鈥檚 recommendation or a medical card. Michigan鈥檚 recreational marijuana laws allow you to possess and use weed legally.

However, if your health condition needs more than the limit allowed for recreational marijuana, then you need to join the state鈥檚 medical-marijuana program.

Registered patients are allowed to possess more marijuana for medicinal use.

Can Minors Take CBD Oil in Michigan?

All residents have legal access to hemp-derived CBD oil, but if you鈥檙e going to administer CBD oil to a child, we recommend bringing your child to his pediatrician for an expert opinion first.

For minors needing CBD oil with higher THC content, their designated caregiver should register them into Michigan鈥檚 medical marijuana program. If the minor qualifies, he will be given his card, and his designated caregiver will have legal access to medical marijuana products.

Of note, the designated caregiver is also the one who鈥檒l manage the minor鈥檚 medical marijuana use.

Can You Travel or Fly with CBD Oil in Michigan?

If you鈥檙e carrying hemp-derived CBD oil, traveling or flying with it won鈥檛 be a problem. You can travel within Michigan or even out of state and not encounter any legal troubles.

When traveling or flying with hemp-derived CBD oil, have with you a copy of the product鈥檚 COA or certificate of analysis to avoid problems. The laboratory test result shows proof of its THC level, so make sure the CBD is extracted from industrial hemp with no more than 0.3% THC.

However, if you鈥檙e carrying marijuana-derived CBD oil it gets a bit confusing.

Traveling with marijuana-derived CBD oil within Michigan is okay, as long as you鈥檙e of legal age or you have your valid marijuana card with you.

If you鈥檙e flying or traveling out of Michigan, you may get into trouble with the law, even if you鈥檙e going to a legal state.

Under federal laws, transporting marijuana or any products derived from marijuana is prohibited and considered a crime.

Where to Find the Best CBD Oil in Michigan?

Looking for the best CBD oil in Michigan isn鈥檛 difficult. You can buy one from your local health store or from the nearest dispensary.

However, if you want more CBD options, then go online. You鈥檒l have more CBD brands to choose from, and you can easily compare their different CBD oils.

Buying CBD oil online in Michigan is also more convenient and gives you benefits such as big discounts, signup bonuses, and free delivery.

Be extra careful when buying your CBD oil. Its popularity has given rise to many bogus CBD sellers more concerned with their profits than the welfare of their consumers.

To avoid unscrupulous CBD makers, be mindful of these tips.

1. Choose Trusted Brands

Trusted CBD brands are dedicated to their consumers鈥 safety, so they always have their products tested by certified laboratories. They also follow the law and make sure their products are FDA compliant.

You can鈥檛 say the same for dodgy CBD sellers.

To attract buyers, they make outrageous health claims, which is already a violation of FDA rules. They also fail to have their products tested, which puts consumers鈥 health at risk.

When buying CBD oil, only choose those made by trusted brands. Not only do they produce quality CBD oils, but their products have already earned the trust of the public.

2. Search for Third-Party Tests

Michigan requires its hemp and marijuana producers to have their products tested for pathogens, toxic residues, artificial pesticides, and heavy metals.

When choosing CBD oil, always look for the product鈥檚 COA. If the product doesn鈥檛 have its laboratory test result, then avoid it.

Trusted CBD makers are law-compliant and always send samples of their products for proper testing. The tests are done by a certified third-party, and the results are shown on the manufacturer鈥檚 website.

3. Read Customer Feedback

Do you want to know just how good CBD oil is?

Then read the feedback and reviews left by customers. You can find these reviews on the manufacturer鈥檚 website, and you can even visit cannabis-related blogs and forums.

You can also ask around. Chances are some of your friends and relatives may have already tried CBD oil, and you can ask them about the oil鈥檚 effects.

4. Full-Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate

When shopping for CBD oil, you鈥檒l encounter three types. You鈥檒l see CBD oils labeled with pure, broad-spectrum, and full-spectrum.

Now, all these CBD oils are similar in that they all have high CBD levels. What makes them different is their other ingredients (or other cannabinoids and terpenes, for that matter!).

Pure CBD oil only has CBD in it, while full-spectrum and broad-spectrum have other cannabinoids and terpenes in the oil.

To differentiate between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oils, full-spectrum CBD oil has THC, while broad-spectrum CBD oil has none.

All work very well for your health concerns, of course, but if you鈥檙e after a stronger and more effective CBD oil, then go for full-spectrum CBD oil.

The addition of THC makes the entourage effect stronger and better at controlling symptoms. The cannabinoids and terpenes interact with each other, making their therapeutic effects even more potent.

Now that marijuana or cannabis has become more accepted in the U.S, many people have become curious about the world of medical and recreational marijuana.聽

The most common cannabis extracts are CBD and THC.

While both have their pros and cons, they鈥檙e entirely different.聽

Learn about the similarities and differences between these two popular cannabinoids, which one you should use, and what to watch out for as you shop.聽

What鈥檚 the Difference Between CBD and THC?

Cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two different compounds extracted from the cannabis plant.

While many people are aware that they鈥檙e two separate substances, it鈥檚 a bit difficult to tell the differences between these compounds.

One key fact to remember is that both hemp and marijuana are sources of CBD. It means you can obtain CBD oil from either of these plants. However, hemp contains less than 0.3% THC, while marijuana has a much higher THC content.

You will commonly find CBD sold in various forms such as oils, edibles, gummies, and topicals. Marijuana is sold in many forms, available in oils, edibles, tinctures, and capsules, and can be consumed in different ways other than smoking.

Marijuana is in high demand, even in areas where it鈥檚 illegal. This is because THC, its psychoactive constituent, gives the feeling of being 鈥渉igh鈥 when people use it. There are many ways to consume CBD and THC聽

CBD and THC are different compounds, but both affect the body鈥檚 endocannabinoid system (ECS). They have that in common but differ in how they interact with the ECS.

CBD vs. THC Chemical Differences

CBD and THC have pretty similar chemical structures. Both have the same molecular formula 鈥 30 hydrogen atoms, 21 carbon atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms. Their molecular composition is similar, but their arrangement is a little different.

This difference in the arrangement of elements is why CBD and THC provide different effects on the body鈥檚 endocannabinoid system (ECS).

How the body鈥檚 endocannabinoid receptors react to THC or CBD can affect the brain鈥檚 release of neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are the chemicals that act as messengers between cells, managing pain, sleep, immune system functions, mood, memory, and other bodily functions.

CBD vs. THC Legal Differences

In the U.S., both THC and marijuana are considered controlled substances. It means that selling, consuming, and cultivating marijuana is not legal under federal law.

However, the legal status changes when it comes to state laws. There are 33 states (plus Washington DC) that have policies enacted to allow some form of medical or recreational use of marijuana as of July 2020. But the exact details differ in each state.

Some states legalized its medical and recreational use, while others have only legalized medical marijuana. Some states also barred sales for recreational purposes but allowed the growing and possessing of recreational marijuana.

The legal status of CBD and THC is different for every state. CBD derived from hemp is legal in all 50 states, but CBD or THC derived from marijuana are legal in roughly half of the United States.聽

Also, the laws about cannabis and its derivatives change rapidly. You should always check your local state laws before using any product containing THC or CBD.

CBD vs. THC Psychoactive Effects

Hemp oil extract in bottles on a wooden table

The psychoactive compound that produces the 鈥渉igh鈥 is THC.聽

CBD is non-intoxicating which means it will not make you feel high.聽

The difference in psychoactivity stems from the fact that THC and CBD affect different receptors in the brain. This causes different effects on the body, with THC producing feelings of being 鈥渉igh鈥 while CBD does not.

To date, scientists have identified two cannabinoid receptors located in different areas of the body. Since they are in various areas of the body, these receptors help regulate different body functions.

A) CB1 Receptors

CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain but also throughout the entire body. When CB1 receptors are activated via endocannabinoids, it causes a shift in neurotransmitters like serotonin. This is what’s behind the psychoactive effects of CB1 agonists like THC.聽

CBD, on the other hand, doesn鈥檛 bind with CB1. It only helps to activate the receptor by increasing its anandamide levels. CBD can also stop THC from binding with this receptor, which neutralizes THC鈥檚 intoxicating effects.

B) CB2 Receptors

The other receptor is the CB2 receptor, primarily found in cells in the immune system and related structures. CB2 receptors are prominent in the gastrointestinal system and spleen, which affects appetite, immune system functions, and pain management.

THC can bind to both CB1 and CB2 receptors, but CB1 seems to be its main target. But because it binds to both, it also helps relieve pain and improve mood.

CBD, on the other hand, more frequently interacts with CB2 receptors. CBD’s interaction with CB2 receptors promotes anti-inflammatory response in the body, which may also have some benefits for cancer patients.

CBD vs. THC Medical Benefits

People use CBD products for their many potential medical benefits. CBD may help alleviate arthritis pain, diabetes, Crohn鈥檚 disease, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy. Also, CBD is often used to control chronic pain, insomnia, inflammation, and anxiety.

THC and CBD often have similar effects and are used to treat many of the same conditions. But there are important differences in their use.聽

CBD is most often used therapeutically, relieving symptoms of ailments such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Seizures
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Migraines
  • Inflammation

On the other hand, THC is the active ingredient in medical marijuana; people use it to alleviate a wide range of health conditions, including:

  • Tremors
  • Insomnia
  • Glaucoma
  • Pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, & migraines
  • Chemotherapy-induced nausea
  • Poor appetite caused by cancer treatment

The FDA has not approved cannabis yet for treating any conditions. However, it has approved certain drugs that contain THC or CBD.聽

Some of these medications include:

  1. Marinol and Syndros contain dronabinol, which is synthetic THC. Marinol and Syndros can treat vomiting and nausea caused by the effects of chemotherapy in treating cancer.
  2. Epidiolex contains CBD, which is used to treat seizures related to Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndromes, forms of epilepsy.
  3. Cesamet contains nabilone, a synthetic substance similar to THC. It is used to treat appetite problems and weight loss caused by HIV/AIDS and chemotherapy.

Benefits of Using CBD & THC Together

Hemp oil extracts in bottles with a dropper and leaves on a concrete floor

Is it safe to use CBD and THC together?聽

Cannabis plants have over 120 different phytocannabinoids that include CBD and THC. They act on the body鈥檚 endocannabinoid system, so your body remains in homeostasis or balance.

THC and CBD are just two of the many phytocannabinoids. You can take them in different forms and a variety of ways, either separately or together.聽

So what happens if you use them together?

Some research suggests that taking them together or with terpenes (organic compounds found in the cannabis plant) increases their effects. This is said to be due to what is called the entourage effect.

According to research, phytocannabinoids and terpenes offer additional medical benefits when taken together. Several studies found they can benefit people suffering from anxiety, pain, inflammation, fungal infection, epilepsy, and cancer.

Another notable effect is the reduced side effects of THC, which include hunger, anxiety, and sedation. Taking CBD with THC is said to help reduce these side effects. However, more research is needed to confirm these claims.

CBD vs. THC Side Effects

CBD is relatively safe even when you take it in large doses. According to research, the side effects of CBD mainly occur due to interactions with other medicines.聽

The common side effects of CBD include:

  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Weight loss
  • Appetite changes

THC, on the other hand, has several temporary side effects. These symptoms include:

  • Red eyes
  • Dry mouth
  • Anxiety
  • Memory loss
  • Increased heart rate
  • Slower reaction times
  • Coordination problems

The side effects of THC have to do with its psychoactive properties. The good thing is neither CBD nor THC are fatal.聽

But the high use of THC may have some long-term adverse psychiatric effects, especially in adolescents who took large amounts of THC.

Drug Testing For CBD & THC

Drug tests are used to detect the amount of THC in your blood as set forth by guidelines from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA).聽

In other words, drug testing is only concerned with the THC compound present. It鈥檚 this compound that can create problems concerning travel or employment.

It will take a huge dose of CBD to trigger a false-positive result on a drug test if your test is looking for THC content in the blood.聽

Drug test center experts estimate that CBD users would have to invest more than 2,000 mg to produce a “false positive” on their drug test. For a point of reference, the average user of CBD consumes between 120 and 160 mg. daily.

Summary: CBD vs. THC Similarities & Differences

CBD and THC are often confused as being the same thing because of how they look and come from the same plant. But these compounds have many important differences.

While their chemical makeup is similar, each cannabinoid has a different effect on the body. THC is commonly used to manage symptoms associated with insomnia, glaucoma, pain, nausea, and appetite issues. CBD is often taken for relief from anxiety, depression, anxiety, migraines, and inflammation. CBD and THC can be used together to increase their effects on the body and help with anxiety, pain, and inflammation.

THC produces psychoactive effects resulting from its more commonly binding with CB1 receptors in cells. CBD does not produce this “high” as it does not react the same way with the body.

THC is federally illegal, while CBD is legal to use in most states.聽 As a result, drug testing focuses on detecting THC levels in the blood and can cause employment issues. CBD does not pose such a threat for users.

But before taking CBD or THC products, be sure to consult with a medical professional to ensure that these products are safe to use with any other medication you may be taking.

Do terpenes matter when choosing CBD oil?

More importantly, should you buy CBD oil with terpenes?

The answer to both questions is yes.

Terpenes are important. When added to CBD oil, terpenes improve the taste and enhance the overall effectiveness of the oil.聽

To help you understand terpenes better, this article discusses what terpenes are, their benefits and effects, and their importance in CBD oils.

What are Terpenes?

All types of plants produce terpenes, and according to experts, there are over 20,000 different types of terpenes found in nature.

Trees, shrubberies, grass, flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and even common weeds all have terpenes. They only differ in the types of terpenes they produce and their concentrations within the plant.

Terpenes are the reason why plants have different colors (pigment), aromas, flavors, and even effects.

They also serve as the plant鈥檚 protective system. The aroma and flavor they give off protect the plant against its natural predators like insects and animals. They also help strengthen the plant cells, protecting them against air pollutants and the sun’s UV rays.

These compounds also play an important role in plant reproduction. Their bright colors and sweet aroma, for example, attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. They carry the pollen from one plant to another, which of course, is vital for reproduction.

Terpenes also serve as the plant鈥檚 immune system, helping it fight off disease and illnesses. They have antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and other medicinal properties that maintain the plant鈥檚 health.

These properties are also why we benefit greatly from consuming vegetables and fruits.

Does CBD Oil Contain Terpenes?

Do all CBD oils contain terpenes?

Well, it depends on the type of CBD oil.

If you have pure CBD oil (called CBD isolate), it鈥檒l only have CBD. It won’t have any additional compounds like other cannabinoids and terpenes.

On the other hand, using broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD oil means you鈥檒l also be getting additional cannabinoids and terpenes. These phytochemicals all work together to produce positive effects on your health.

The only difference between the two is that full-spectrum CBD oil also contains traces of THC 鈥 typically 0.3% or less.

What are the Popular Terpenes Found in CBD Oil?

hemp bud and leaf with hoppy, pepper, lemons and fir needles

Cannabis produces over a hundred different types of terpenes, but only a few have been well-studied of these numbers.

Below are some of the best-researched terpenes found in cannabis plants.

1. Limonene

Also found in citrus fruits like orange and lemon, limonene has a refreshing citrusy and spicy aroma that energizes the mind and body.

This terpene helps relieve stress by boosting mood. Limonene also reduces swelling and pain. It also has antibacterial and antifungal effects that control infection.

2. Linalool

An aromatic terpene also found in lavender and rose, linalool produces a rich floral scent with hints of citrus fruits and spices.

Linalool also helps with discomfort. It eases tension, stress, sleeplessness, and forgetfulness. This terpene also fights bacteria and fungi.

3. Caryophyllene

Caryophyllene, also found in hops and cloves, gives off a spicy and woody aroma.

This terpene eases pain and inflammation. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties help fight off infection. Called 鈥Beta-Caryophyllene,” this caryophyllene helps fight diabetes and its complications. There are

4. Pinene

A refreshing and invigorating terpene, pinene is commonly found in pine needles.

Pinene refreshes the mind, enhances memory, and helps clear brain fog. It also helps control pain and inflammation as well as reduce seizures.

There are two structural isomers of pinene found in nature called the Alpha Pinene and the Beta Pinene.

5. Myrcene

Myrcene has an interesting aroma. It gives off an earthy and musky aroma with robust fruity and herbal notes. This terpene is also found in mango, lemongrass, basil, and hops.

This Myrcene terpene has many therapeutic effects. It not only reduces pain and inflammation but also improves mood and sleep and fights bacteria. Myrcene also relaxes the muscles.

6. Humulene

Also found in black pepper, ginseng, sage, and hops, humulene offers a spicy, earthy, and woody aroma.

Humulene is called the jack of all trades of terpene and relieves discomfort and inflammation. It also has properties that help control weight.

7. Terpinolene

A terpene with floral, herbal, and piney aroma, terpinolene can also be found in apples, ginseng, nutmeg, and flowering plants like lilacs.

Terpinolene fights off infection caused by bacteria and fungus. It also helps improve sleep.

8. Ocimene

Ocimene also found in basil, lavender, and tarragon has an energizing and refreshing aroma. It smells sweet and woody with herbal and floral notes.

This terpene has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal effects. Ocimene also has anti-inflammatory as well as antioxidant properties.

9. Bisabolol

Also produced by chamomile and sage, bisabolol has a sweet, floral scent.

Bisabolol helps control pain and inflammation聽as well as fight infection caused by bacteria.

10. Eucalyptol

Minty and refreshing, eucalyptol is also produced by tea trees, rosemary, sagebrush, and peppermint.

Eucalyptol helps with pain and infections caused by fungi and bacteria. It also refreshes the mind and helps enhance memory. Its antioxidant properties also protect many organs from diseases.

Some terpenes like limonene, linalool, pinene, myrcene, terpinolene, and humulene also have anti-cancer effects.

What are the Benefits and Effects of Terpenes in CBD Oil?

Terpenes make up part of the entourage effect associated with cannabis.

The entourage effect is a phenomenon that states that all the compounds in cannabis work together in producing stronger beneficial effects compared to isolates.

Of the different CBD forms, this effect is strongest in full-spectrum CBD oil. Its cannabinoids (including THC) and terpenes amplify each other鈥檚 health effects.

Their presence makes the CBD oil more potent and more effective in maintaining mind and body health.

Terpenes also add more aroma and flavor to the CBD oil, although their scent and flavor are not as perceptible in CBD oils compared to smoking CBD flowers.

How to Use CBD Terpenes?

a cup of tea with a hemp leaf and different kinds of terpenes, hemp buds and leaves on the side

How to use CBD products containing terpenes depends on the CBD form, of course.

CBD oils and tinctures are oftentimes used as a sublingual product and placed under the tongue. They may also be added to foods and drinks and ingested like CBD edibles (candies, gummies, brownies, capsules, etc.)

Topicals like balms and ointments produce localized effects and are applied to the skin. CBD cream products like this work best for skin problems as well as joint and muscle aches and pains.

Inhalable CBD products like flowers and vapes are smoked and vaped.

Why Add Terpenes into CBD Oil?

When you smoke CBD-rich flowers, you’re also taking in all its naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes.

This isn鈥檛 the case with CBD oils.

We lose some of the plant material鈥檚 cannabinoids and terpenes during the extraction process, affecting the product鈥檚 potency and quality.

Some producers add terpenes back into the product to enhance CBD’s effects to increase its potency and efficacy.

However, the more processed the oil, the less it captures the plant’s essence, and the farther its quality gets from the original source.

When choosing CBD oils with terpenes, the extraction process should matter a lot.

How to Choose CBD Oils & Vapes with Terpenes

Not all CBD oils and vapes are created equal, so you have to be discerning in choosing your CBD product as a consumer.

Below are some tips to choose the best CBD oils and CBD vapes with terpenes.

1. Know the Extraction Process

There are many ways to extract CBD. The most common ones include oil, alcohol, and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction methods.

The supercritical CO2 extraction method produces the cleanest, safest, and most potent end product of these different methods.聽

It doesn’t use too high temperatures that can damage or destroy the cannabinoids and terpenes. This preserves their quality and potency.

Because it鈥檚 solvent-free, the end product doesn’t contain residual solvents. Toxic residues and byproducts are commonly seen in the alcohol extraction method.

Moreover, this method also kills off any pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, etc.), resulting in a safe, contaminant-free product.

2. Look for Certificate of Analysis or COA

It would help if you also looked for the CBD product鈥檚 certificate of analysis done by a reputable laboratory testing facility. This proves that the product underwent necessary testing to check for its safety, quality, and potency.

The COA should show the product is contaminant-free and contains the stated cannabinoid and terpene profile and potency.

3. Read Product Reviews

Reading product reviews and customer feedback is just as important.

Don鈥檛 buy CBD products that receive more negative than positive reviews. If most of those who tried the product didn鈥檛 enjoy it, you probably won’t either.

Product reviews give you an idea of just how good and effective (or not!) the CBD with terpenes is.

4. Choose Full-Spectrum CBD

If you’re after a more potent effect, choose full-spectrum CBD oils and vapes. The presence of more cannabinoids (including THC) and terpenes helps add to the product鈥檚 overall potency and effectiveness.

Again, look for the product鈥檚 COA. Make sure that it shows not only the cannabinoid profile but also its terpene profile. Check their concentration as well.

Final Thoughts 鈥 Terpenes in CBD Oil Matter

Terpenes, on their own, have many therapeutic effects.

They help relieve pain and swelling, boost mood, fight infection, improve sleep, and relax muscles. Some terpenes enhance memory, and some may even reduce the proliferation of cancer cells.

Does their presence in CBD oil matter?

It definitely does!

Terpenes add to the overall aroma and flavor of CBD oil. More importantly, they enhance CBD’s beneficial effects.

Do you pay attention to terpenes in your CBD oil? What blends of aromas work best for you? Let us know in the comments below!

In a nutshell, CBD extracted from both types of cannabis 鈥 hemp and marijuana 鈥 is legal in New Jersey.

The only difference between them is that CBD from hemp is available to all residents, while CBD from marijuana is only available to registered patients.

We know New Jersey鈥檚 CBD laws can get a bit confusing, so to help you understand them better, we created this guide for you.

We鈥檒l discuss the difference between hemp CBD and marijuana CBD.

We鈥檒l also give you some pointers on what to look for in a good CBD oil, how to differentiate between good and bad CBD brands, and where you can buy CBD oil.

Is It Legal to Buy and Use CBD Oil in New Jersey?

New Jersey allows the use of CBD, but you have to be careful though in choosing the CBD oil to prevent any problems with the law.

Cannabis plants 鈥 including hemp and marijuana 鈥 produce CBD, and CBD will always have the same chemical structure no matter where it鈥檚 extracted from.

The confusion only crops up when you look at the legality of the source.

CBD extracted from industrial hemp was made federally legal in 2018 when the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law. This means that hemp plants with THC levels of less than 0.3% are now legal, and we can legally use all its parts, including CBD.

However, under federal laws, cannabis plants containing over 0.3% THC are considered marijuana and are, therefore, still prohibited. Products sourced from marijuana remain illegal on a federal level.

In the state of New Jersey, though, both CBD sources are legal.

New Jersey allowed the use of marijuana-derived products when the state legalized marijuana for medical use in January 2010.

Under the state鈥檚 Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act, patients with debilitating health conditions can join the state鈥檚 medical-marijuana program to gain access to legal marijuana-derived products.

To get into the program, you need to be diagnosed with one of the state鈥檚 qualifying medical conditions. Once approved, you鈥檒l be given your medical marijuana card.

In New Jersey, only those with valid cards can buy marijuana-sourced CBD oil.

As for hemp-sourced CBD oil, the 2018 Farm Bill gives all residents of New Jersey access to products sourced from hemp. This means you can buy any amount of hemp-sourced CBD products since there鈥檚 no possession limit, as long as the CBD is sourced from industrial hemp and has no higher than 0.3% THC.

To align state laws with the federal government鈥檚, in August 2019, the state signed into law the . This law made hemp-sourced CBD oil fully and legally accessible to all residents of New Jersey.

Do You Need a Prescription or Medical Card to Buy CBD Oil in New Jersey?

For CBD oil extracted from industrial hemp, you won鈥檛 need a doctor鈥檚 written recommendation or even a medical card to buy one in New Jersey.

Again, hemp-sourced CBD oil was made legal under the 2018 Farm Bill and the state鈥檚 own Hemp Farming Act, but this type of CBD oil would only be legal though if its CBD was sourced from industrial hemp and doesn鈥檛 have more than 0.3% THC.

If your medical condition needs the addition of THC, then you have to see your doctor and be diagnosed with one of the qualifying health conditions. Once done, you can register with New Jersey鈥檚 medical marijuana program to get your card.

You鈥檒l need a doctor鈥檚 recommendation as well as your valid medical card to buy marijuana-sourced products, including CBD oil with higher THC content.

Can Minors Take CBD Oil in New Jersey?

While CBD sourced from industrial hemp is available to everyone, care should be taken when administering it to minors. We advise you to seek the guidance of your child鈥檚 pediatrician for proper CBD use.

For children with severe medical conditions in need of marijuana-derived CBD products, they need to register with the state鈥檚 medical-marijuana program before they鈥檙e given access to CBD products containing higher THC content.

The minor鈥檚 designated caregiver will register them into the program and manage the use of marijuana-derived products.

Can You Travel or Fly with CBD Oil in New Jersey?

You shouldn鈥檛 have any problems with the law when traveling or flying with CBD oil sourced from industrial hemp within New Jersey.

As long as the product鈥檚 CBD came from industrial hemp that has less than 0.3% THC, you should also be okay flying or traveling with it outside the state.

Of note, always have a copy of the CBD oil鈥檚 certificate of analysis when you fly or travel outside New Jersey. The laboratory result shows the CBD oil鈥檚 THC level and can help you avoid problems when crossing borders or boarding a plane.

As for CBD oil sourced from marijuana or any medical marijuana products, for that matter, you鈥檇 need to have your marijuana card with you when traveling within New Jersey.

Flying or crossing state borders with marijuana products, even if it鈥檚 for medical use, is illegal since marijuana is still considered a controlled substance under federal laws.

What are the Best CBD Oils in New Jersey?

  • Royal CBD Oil 鈥 Most Recommended CBD Oil
  • Gold Bee CBD Oil 鈥 Most Trusted Vegan CBD Oil
  • Hemp Bomb CBD Oil 鈥 Best Pure CBD Oil

1. 鈥 Most Recommended CBD Oil

This brand has clearly earned the hearts of many CBD consumers and has become one of the most trusted and recommended CBD oils in the market.

Gold Bee鈥檚 CBD oil is the go-to of vegans. Their CBD oils are made from industrial hemp and contain no additives, flavorings, and other ingredients sourced from animals.

Their products have also been tested by a certified third party and found free of any harmful residues as well as dangerous microorganisms.

For pure CBD oil, Hemp Bomb is your best option. This CBD brand is one of the oldest in the CBD industry and has already earned a huge following.

They鈥檙e known for their premium-grade CBD oils extracted from organic hemp. These have been tested by a trusted third party, and you can view their certificates of analysis on the manufacturer鈥檚 website.

Where to Find the Best CBD Oil in New Jersey?

Hemp-derived CBD oils are easily accessible in New Jersey. You can buy them in your nearest dispensary or in health stores.

If you鈥檙e after more benefits and perks though, we recommend buying CBD oil online. Not only are you given bigger discounts, especially if you buy in bulk, but you also benefit from free shipping if you reached a certain amount.

Buying CBD oil online also gives you more brands as well as a wider variety of CBD products to choose from.

Shopping for CBD oil online is easier and more convenient, but as a consumer, you have to know how to protect yourself against dodgy CBD brands.

To avoid buying fake CBD products, follow these tips.

1. Choose Trusted Brands

CBD鈥檚 popularity created a very big demand for CBD products. While this gives us access to more CBD, it鈥檚 also given rise to unscrupulous manufacturers.

To avoid bogus CBD sellers, always buy from trusted brands. These brands have already created names for themselves in the industry, and consumers trust their excellent CBD products.

Legit CBD brands follow FDA and DSHEA rules and regulations. Unlike dodgy CBD makers, trusted CBD brands don鈥檛 make outrageous health claims to attract buyers.

If you see CBD brands making too-good-to-be-true health claims, avoid them. You can鈥檛 trust brands that violate FDA and DSHEA guidelines.

2. Search for the CBD Oil鈥檚 Laboratory Test

New Jersey requires all CBD products (be it sourced from hemp or marijuana) to undergo laboratory testing by a certified third party, so if you see a CBD product without its certificate of analysis, don鈥檛 buy it.

Legit CBD manufacturers always submit their products for testing to ensure their consumer鈥檚 safety and guarantee their product鈥檚 quality.

3. Read Customer Feedback

To reach an informed decision, you also have to read customer feedback. These can be found on the CBD manufacturer and seller鈥檚 website. You鈥檒l also find discussions regarding CBD products in many cannabis forums and blogs.

These reviews give you information about CBD products and what you can expect from using them (their effects and side effects, for example).

4. Know What You Need

CBD oils come in three types 鈥 full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and pure CBD oil.

They all have high CBD content, and their only difference is the addition of other ingredients.

As the name implies, pure CBD oil contains only CBD. Both full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oils, on the other hand, contain other cannabinoids as well as terpenes. However, full-spectrum CBD oil also has THC, while broad-spectrum CBD oil has none.

Which is better among the three?

We suggest you go with the full-spectrum CBD oil. Its THC content makes the product more potent, making the entourage effect stronger and more effective in relieving health problems.

Is It Legal to Use Marijuana in New Jersey?

Marijuana for medical use was legalized in New Jersey in 2010. However, medical marijuana products are only available to qualified patients registered in the state鈥檚 marijuana program.

Marijuana for recreational use, on the other hand, was legalized in November 2020 and took effect in January 2021. While this allows residents above the age of 21 to use recreational weed, no specific laws have been set yet to regulate the industry.

How Much Marijuana Can You Possess in New Jersey?

Approved medical marijuana patients are allowed to possess up to three ounces of usable marijuana per month.

For recreational use, again, no regulations have been set yet.

How Many Marijuana Plants Can You Legally Grow in New Jersey?

Home cultivation for medical use is not allowed in the state.

No information yet on how many marijuana plants one can grow for recreational use.

Is It Legal to Smoke Marijuana in New Jersey?

Registered medical marijuana patients are allowed to smoke marijuana in New Jersey, but only inside their personal properties.

Although recreational marijuana is now allowed in the state, it鈥檚 still best and safer to wait for the lawmakers to create the regulations and enact the new laws.

illustration of a big clock with a person carrying CBD oil bottle and another person holding a capsule

It鈥檚 understandable how using CBD for the first time can confuse people. CBD, after all, remains unregulated.

What鈥檚 the right dose to use? Should I take it in the morning or at night?

To help you with your CBD journey, this guide teaches you how to find the optimal CBD dosage and what time of the day to take it.聽

What Time Should You Take CBD Oil?

Now, let鈥檚 find the best time to take CBD oil.

Similar to finding your best dose, many factors to consider when determining your CBD schedule. These include:

  • The reason why you’re taking CBD in the first place
  • Your expectations and desired effects
  • The CBD product or form
  • Frequency of taking CBD oil

Effects of CBD Oil in the Morning

When you take CBD oil in the morning, it not only boosts your energy but also relieves some of your discomforts.

Because you鈥檇 be feeling more energized and in a healthier mood, there鈥檒l also be a boost in your motivation and an increase in your productivity.

The increase in energy may also help you enjoy your exercise regimen more.

Effects of CBD Oil at Night

Taking CBD oil at night helps relax the mind and the body. Your discomfort eases, and your mind feels calmer and more peaceful.

With your stress and discomfort gone, it鈥檒l be much easier to fall into a long, restful sleep. You’ll also feel more energized in the morning since your sleep quality improved.

Best Time to Take CBD by Product Type

Now that you know the most effective time to take CBD, choosing the best CBD form or product is the next step.

A) Oral CBD (Sublingual & Ingestible)

Sublingual CBD oils and tinctures are usually placed under the tongue, while ingestible CBD-like capsules and edibles are swallowed whole.

Sublingual CBD offers a faster onset of effects since CBD is quickly absorbed by the cells in the mouth. You’ll feel the effects in less than 30 minutes.

On the other hand, Ingestible CBD takes some time since it has to go through several organs like the stomach and the liver first. You’ll feel the effects anywhere from 30 minutes to about two hours, depending on your metabolism.

Sublingual CBD is best for acute symptoms and may be used on an as-needed basis. Its fast onset of effects can immediately give you some relief, with the effects lasting for about two to four hours.

On the other hand, Ingestible CBD is best for chronic symptoms since CBD stays longer in the system. It has more time to activate more endocannabinoid systems and produce its health effects. The effects typically last about six to eight hours, so it鈥檚 best to use ingestible CBD like you would any other supplement 鈥 regularly and preferably at the same time of the day.

B) Inhalable CBD (CBD Flowers and Vape)

CBD flowers are usually smoked, while CBD vapes are inhaled using vaporizers.

Like sublingual CBD, both produce a fast onset of effects since CBD is immediately absorbed and directly goes into the bloodstream. This type of CBD product works best for acute symptoms and may also be used as needed.

The effects of inhalable CBD usually last about two to four hours as well.

Of the two, though, CBD vapes are safer and healthier to use. It doesn’t produce harmful, carcinogenic byproducts, which occur during the combustion of paper and dried flowers.

C) CBD Topicals

CBD topicals include ointments, balms, creams, salves, lotions, gels, among others.

Unlike the first two forms of CBD, which may produce widespread effects, CBD applied topically only produce localized effects. The cannabinoid doesn’t enter the bloodstream. Instead, it activates the endocannabinoid systems found in the skin cells.

CBD topicals are perfect for muscle as well as joint aches and pains. This may also be good for skin conditions like acne, hives, or insect bites.

It may take about 30 minutes to an hour before you feel the effects, so to increase absorption, be sure to wash the area with soap and clean water. This removes the dirt and grime that can slow down the rate of absorption.

The effects of CBD topicals usually last about five hours. It may be taken on a regular or an as-needed basis.

How Often Can You Take CBD Oil?

Some people take CBD oil once a day, while some take it twice or thrice a day.

Again, this depends on your preferences, so listen to your body as you find the best CBD dose.

For example, you’re using CBD for health and wellness maintenance only. Then you may want to start with low-strength CBD and take it once a day. For an energy boost, take it in the morning. To have a more relaxing sleep, then take it at night.

However, if you’re using CBD to help manage some of your health concerns, then you may want to start with medium- to high-strength CBD. You may use the CBD dosage calculator discussed above to get the best dosage for your body weight and symptoms.

You can experiment and take the whole dose once a day or divide the dose into two and take a half in the morning and a half at night.

Stay on one routine for a few days, and if it doesn’t work, then switch to the next. If it still didn鈥檛 work, then you might need to increase your CBD dose.

If you need more help with CBD use, we recommend seeing your doctor. He can help you come up with a good CBD schedule.

Reasons for Taking CBD Oil

woman taking CBD oil on hand using a dropper

CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system, the main function of which is to help maintain balance and homeostasis within your mind and body. CBD also influences other receptors responsible for maintaining this balance.

Simply put, CBD will help you where and when you need it most. It will stimulate these biological systems, helping them promote and maintain balance.

To take full advantage of CBD鈥檚 health effects, know why you need it in the first place.

Is it because you need an energy boost to start the day? Or maybe you need a mood booster? How about some control over your aches and pains to get through your daily tasks?

If so, then take your CBD oil in the morning. This way, CBD helps you prepare and feel ready to face the day.

Do you need help in winding down and relaxing, or maybe you need a little push to help you sleep better?

If this is your reason, then take CBD oil at night. It helps you relax and unwind as you settle down for the night.

What鈥檚 The Dose of CBD?聽

People respond differently to CBD. The dose that works for one may not necessarily work for you.

Remember, many factors influence your CBD dose. These include:

  • Metabolism
  • Weight
  • Size
  • Medical condition
  • Symptoms
  • Other medications or drugs you’re taking
  • CBD potency
  • Type of CBD product
  • How well you tolerate CBD

Now, the general rule for CBD dosing is to take:

  • 1 mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight for low-strength CBD
  • 3 mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight for medium-strength CBD
  • 6 mg of CBD per 10 lbs of body weight for high-strength CBD

Let’s say, for example, you weigh 150 pounds, then you’ll need 15 mg of CBD for mild symptoms, 45 mg for moderate symptoms, and 90 mg for severe symptoms.

Next, determine the milligrams of CBD per mL or one full dropper.

To calculate how much CBD is in an mL, divide the total CBD milligrams by the bottle size in mL.

Let鈥檚 say you have 900 mg CBD in a 30 mL bottle, then divide 900 by 30, giving you 30 mg of CBD per 1 mL or one full dropper. One full dropper has about 20 drops.

Since you鈥檒l only need 15 mg of CBD for mild symptoms, for example, then use half a dropper or about 10 drops.

Start Low & Go Slow

You may want to start with a lower dose than what you initially calculated to avoid side effects. Stay on that dose for about three to five days, so your body gets used to CBD.

If there鈥檚 no improvement, then gradually increase the dose.

If there are some side effects, then decrease the dose.

Finding the right CBD dose is a trial and error experience before you find your sweet spot, so be patient.

Final Thoughts 鈥 Best Times to Take CBD Oil

When鈥檚 the best time of the day to take CBD oil?

Well, there鈥檚 really no right answer to this.

When using CBD oil for the first time, listening to your body鈥檚 reaction to CBD is important. How your body responds to CBD can help you determine your CBD schedule.

Take notes of the effects based on the doses, frequency of use, the time you took CBD oil, etc., and then adjust accordingly.

Always remember that 鈥渙ne-size-fits-all鈥 doesn’t apply to CBD use. If you want to find the best dose, then you have to be patient and consistent.

Finding the best dose and frequency of use won’t be easy, but with patience and consistency, you’ll soon develop a CBD schedule that works for you.

Illustration of the Strongest CBD Oil

The higher the CBD content, the less of it you need to hit the higher doses of CBD.

People with more severe health concerns have a lot to benefit from using stronger CBD oils.

However, just because a CBD oil lists a higher number of CBD on the bottle doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 the strongest. There are other factors to consider 鈥 such as what other compounds are included in the formula, how it was made, and what carrier oil is used.

In this guide, we鈥檒l share with you some of the strongest CBD oils we鈥檝e tried. We鈥檒l also teach you what to look for when shopping for high-potency CBD oils in 2022.

Royal CBD carries its own high-potency CBD oil. At 2500 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil per 30 mL bottle, a single serving of this oil provides a high-dose of 83 mg CBD.

2. 鈥 Runner-Up

Rating: 4

Gold Bee鈥檚 strongest CBD oil may not be as potent as the first CBD oil, but it most definitely deserves a spot on our list.

What makes this oil particularly potent 鈥斅燿espite having a lower CBD content compared to other products on this list 鈥斅爄s the exceptionally high concentration of terpenes in the oil. Terpenes like bisabolol, myrcene, and linalool provide an added boost to the various health benefits of this oil.

One 30 mL bottle of Gold Bee鈥檚 CBD oil contains 2400 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil suspended in organic MCT oil.

What we love about this brand:

  • 1200 mg and 2400 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil

  • 5000 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil
  • 167 mg of CBD per serving
  • Non-GMO, naturally-cultivated industrial hemp
  • Natural flavor
  • Third-party tested

4. Charlotte鈥檚 Web 60 mg/1 mL 鈥 Most Popular Brand

Rating: 4

Charlotte鈥檚 Web carved a niche for itself in the industry after the founders created their own CBD-rich cannabis strain to help a little girl suffering from a rare and severe form of epilepsy.

Even now, Charlotte鈥檚 Web remains one of the most recognizable brands in the market.

The strongest CBD oil this company offers comes in two sizes 鈥 30 mL and 100 mL bottles. One serving gives you 60 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil sourced from all-natural, USA-grown hemp.

What we love about this brand:

  • 1800 mg of full-spectrum hemp extract
  • 60 mg of CBD per serving
  • No additives or artificial dyes
  • Available in four flavors 鈥 orange blossom, lemon twist, mint chocolate, and olive oil
  • Third-party tested

Charlotte鈥檚 Web鈥檚 CBD oil works best for people with mild to moderate health problems. It helps relax the body after a tiring day, ease stress, and decrease pain and inflammation.

Because it鈥檚 made from whole-plant extract, you also benefit from the entourage effect. This is a concept where the entire range of compounds produced in the cannabis plant (cannabinoids, terpenes, amino acids, fatty acids, etc.) work together to produce a stronger action than any of these compounds on their own.

5. CBDPure 1000 mg CBD Oil 鈥 Great Option for Beginners

CBD Pure 1000mg

Rating: 3

This CBD oil is strong, but not nearly as strong as the other options on our list. This makes it a little better for people new to CBD who likely need a higher dose聽鈥 but aren鈥檛 yet sure how their body will respond to high-strength CBD.

These 30 mL bottle contains 1000 mg of premium-grade, full-spectrum CBD oil extracted from organic hemp. One dropper gives you enough cannabinoids and terpenes to provide relief for several hours at a time.

What we love about this brand:

  • 1000 mg of full-spectrum hemp extract per bottle
  • 33 mg of CBD per serving
  • No preservatives or artificial flavorings
  • Natural flavor
  • Third-party tested

What are the Benefits of Using a Strong CBD Oil?聽

CBD Oil with Hemp Leaf in Pink Background

CBD is known for its long list of beneficial properties.

It鈥檚 been shown to be effective against pain, inflammation, stress, and anxiety. Studies have also shown CBD can help regulate mood and sleep problems.

While a low dose of CBD may help relieve symptoms, some people need higher levels of CBD to feel the same results.

The potency of your CBD oil matters most when using it for more severe or chronic (long-lasting) health issues. The stronger the CBD oil, the greater the benefits, even with smaller doses of oil.

If you鈥檝e been using CBD for a long time, it鈥檚 possible you may have developed some tolerance to CBD. This may be the reason why your usual dose is no longer working for you and why you鈥檒l need to adjust the dosage.

Buying the strongest CBD oil can also save you some money in the long-run.

Stronger CBD oils usually cost more upfront, but the cost per milligram of CBD is much lower overall. You need a smaller volume of oil per dose, so a single bottle will last much longer.

What to Look for When Shopping For The Strongest CBD Oil?

Here are four points to consider while you shop for strong CBD oils online or in-store:

1. The Type of CBD Matters

Most experts agree full-spectrum CBD oils have a much more versatile set of effects than pure, isolated CBD products.

Full-spectrum CBD oils provide more health benefits because of something called the entourage effect. The active ingredients found in these products work together to produce a greater level of benefit when used together than taken separately.

2. Read Customer Reviews and Feedback

When choosing your CBD oil, be sure to read reviews customers made about the product. You鈥檒l get tons of information about the product, the manufacturer, and the effects (and side effects as well) of the CBD oil from these reviews.

Look for mentions on reputable websites, expert review sites, and forums with experienced CBD-users like Reddit.

3. Check Third-Party Laboratory Results

Visit the manufacturer鈥檚 website to learn more about their products鈥 quality.

Trusted brands are transparent about the quality, potency, and safety of their CBD oil. They send samples of their products to accredited and licensed laboratories for testing. These tests look for the presence of toxins, harmful residues, heavy metals, and pathogenic microorganisms.

It鈥檚 important these labs are listed as 鈥渢hird-party鈥 labs. This implies that the facility doing the testing has no affiliation with the CBD company itself. This ensures that all the results are completely unbiased and honest.

Reputable CBD oil manufacturers provide online copies of their products鈥 laboratory results. The test results can be found on the manufacturer鈥檚 website.

4. Compare Prices & Assess the Value of the Oil

You should also consider the product鈥檚 price and determine its value compared to similar products.

When comparing value, you need to get the cost per milligram of CBD. This is the best way to compare two or more oils with different potencies and bottle sizes. It shows you the cost for every milligram of the active ingredient in the formula 鈥 which, of course, is the CBD.

To do this, you鈥檒l have to divide the selling price of the product by the total milligrams of CBD found in the bottle.

For example, if product A costs $100 and contains 1000 mg of CBD 鈥 it means every 1 mg of CBD costs around $0.10 ($100 divided by 1000 = $0.10).

If product B, on the other hand, costs $250 and contains 5000 mg of CBD. This gives you $0.05 per 1 mg of CBD.

When you compare the two, you鈥檒l find that product B costs more upfront but has nearly twice the value overall ($0.05 per mg compared to $0.10 per mg for product A).

How to Use Strong CBD Oils?

Hand Holds CBD Oil Dropper

If you don鈥檛 like the way CBD oil tastes, it can help to disguise the oil with some food. The effects can be felt between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on your metabolism.

However, for faster symptom relief, we recommend placing the oil under your tongue and holding it there for a couple of minutes. Small capillaries (blood vessels) located under your tongue will absorb the CBD and allow it to enter the bloodstream much more quickly.

Most products tell you to take a full dropper once or twice daily, but if you鈥檙e using high-potency CBD oil for the first time, you might want to start with a lower dose.

You could start with half a dropper at first and then simply increase the dosage if you didn鈥檛 feel any improvement after about three to five days. Doing this helps you avoid some unwanted side-effects from accidentally taking too much.

It also allows you to assess your body鈥檚 reaction to the higher CBD dose, making it easier for you to find the most effective dose that controls your symptoms.

Remember, CBD is a personalized form of therapy, and the only way you can find your 鈥渟weet spot鈥 is to be patient and consistent.

High-Potency CBD Oils vs. Low-Potency CBD Oils

Using the strongest CBD oil may be better for more severe symptoms and chronic health problems.

However, CBD is known to present a bell-shaped dose-response. This means that CBD is most effective at a certain dose. Taking too much CBD oil could end up reducing the overall benefits you receive in a similar way to taking a dose that鈥檚 too low.

It鈥檚 better to find the correct dose for your body and sticking to it.

To find the right dose, it鈥檚 best to start low and increase gradually over time. When you start to feel signs of improvement, you鈥檝e likely found your optimal dose.

For CBD to become more effective beyond its threshold dose, it will need the help of the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the plant. This is why full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD oils work better than pure CBD oils. The entourage effect makes the CBD oil more potent in reducing symptoms.

Staying Safe While Using High-Potency CBD Oil

CBD is a safe, non-toxic, and non-psychoactive cannabinoid, but it also produces some side effects.

These side effects may include dry mouth, dry eyes, drowsiness, headache, changes in appetite, and alterations in digestive function.

Fortunately, the side-effects of CBD are generally very mild and short-lived. As the effects of CBD wear-off, so do the side-effects.

If you experience side-effects, try reducing your next dose or taking your CBD oil with a meal.

CBD also interacts with other drugs, so before trying the strongest CBD oil, be sure to speak with your physician first, especially if you鈥檙e taking other medications.

Final Thoughts: What鈥檚 The Strongest CBD Oil in 2022?

The list we鈥檝e shared with you are our top 5 strongest CBD oils. We鈥檝e particularly chosen them based on the reviews we鈥檝e gathered and our own experience in using them as well.

Of the five brands, our top favorite is Royal CBD. Their CBD oil is potent, and we鈥檙e pleased with its premium quality.

Our second favorite is Gold Bee. They offer a smaller range of CBD oils to choose from but contain the strongest potency of terpenes and other hemp-derived phytochemicals.

Choosing strong CBD oils is sometimes more advantageous than buying lower-strength CBD oils. With just one serving, its high CBD content already gives you better control over your symptoms.

Buying stronger CBD oils also allows you to save money, especially if you don鈥檛 need a high dose of CBD for your daily needs. One bottle can last you a long time.

Mother Holding Her Baby While Breastfeeding Illustration

Research on cannabis and its chief medicinal ingredient 鈥 CBD (cannabidiol) 鈥 is still in its relative infancy.

Popular uses of CBD include depression, stress, and anxiety 鈥 all of which are correlated with pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenthood.

Causes may include lack of sleep, dramatic changes in lifestyle, and hormonal shifts.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as many as one in five women suffer from postpartum depression 鈥 so it鈥檚 no surprise that a lot of new mothers are considering taking CBD.

But if you鈥檙e breastfeeding, there鈥檚 the obvious concern regarding your baby鈥檚 safety and well-being. Some substances 鈥 such as alcohol and THC 鈥 should not be consumed while breastfeeding, but does this also apply to CBD?

In this article, we explore the relationship between CBD and breastfeeding so you can make an informed decision.

Quick Answer: Is It Safe to Consume CBD When Breastfeeding?

Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure due to the lack of concrete scientific evidence currently available.

We do know that THC 鈥 the psychoactive compound responsible for the high associated with marijuana use 鈥 is harmful to newborn babies, but there has not been enough research to say whether this applies to CBD in the same way. Scientists are still seeking to understand how CBD may affect a developing infant.

However, there may be cases in which taking CBD outweighs the risks 鈥 such as if you鈥檙e suffering from conditions that would otherwise be treated with stronger prescription drugs. In this sense, it鈥檚 about weighing up the benefits vs. the risks.

What Are the Risks of Using CBD While Breastfeeding?

mom is breastfeeding her baby

We know there are risks associated with consuming THC when breastfeeding.

The U.S. Surgeon General advised that it may affect fetal brain development, causing hyperactivity, poor cognitive function, and other long-term consequences.

It鈥檚 absolutely imperative that, while breastfeeding, you do not consume CBD products that contain high levels of THC. It may be easily available if you live in a state that has legalized marijuana for recreational use. Remember that the limit under federal law is 0.3%, and anything above this could have intoxicating side-effects.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that advises people against consuming cannabis in any form during pregnancy or while breastfeeding 鈥 specifically mentioning products that contain CBD.

鈥淒espite being quite in vogue, there鈥檚 still a lot we don鈥檛 understand about CBD and its potential health effects, especially in pregnant and lactating people. Until we have more research, it makes absolute medical sense to proceed with caution,鈥 says Dr. Jennifer Conti, an OB-GYN at Stanford Health Care.

Felice Gersh, M.D., a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist and author of PCOS SOS: A Gynecologist鈥檚 Lifeline To Naturally Restore Your Rhythms, Hormones, and Happiness, backs this up, stating: 鈥淲e truly do not know what short- or long-term impact on the baby [CBD] may have.鈥

Studies on Animals

Although research on humans is limited, there have been some that have shown high doses of CBD in pregnant female mice impair the reproductive system of male fetuses. This suggests that male human infants could be affected in the same way if their mother consumes CBD while breastfeeding 鈥 although this is currently only a theory.

The Potential Benefits of CBD For New Mothers

Woman Hand Holding CBD Oil

Many new parents suffer from stress and anxiety, and women have to also endure hormonal shifts that can have both physical and psychological effects.

This can have severely detrimental consequences on not only the parents but also the baby. Unfortunately, most prescription medicines used to treat anxiety come with their own harsh side-effects.

Many of these medications will be transferred to the baby via breast milk.

CBD, therefore, may offer a safer alternative for managing anxiety and depression in new mothers.

Hilary Peckham, the co-founder of Etain Health, states: “Many sufferers usually start a treatment of antidepressants which may not be appropriate for breastfeeding and may need to discontinue. Starting CBD may still allow the mother to breastfeed and prolong the bonding time with the infant.鈥

She continues to say that because CBD 鈥渉as been shown to pose little risk to both adults and children. It鈥檚 important to weigh the risk versus benefit for the mom and infant.鈥

It鈥檚 strongly recommended that you consult a medical professional before consuming CBD while breastfeeding.

If I Decide to Take CBD While Breastfeeding, Which Type Is Best?

If, after consulting a medical professional, you decide to consume CBD while breastfeeding, you should carefully consider which type you choose.

As previously mentioned, there鈥檚 no doubt that THC can be harmful to babies鈥 development, so you should ensure there is none present in your CBD. This includes CBD with the federally legal limit of 0.3% THC, as it鈥檚 better to be safe than sorry.

This rules out full-spectrum CBD, which contains all of the compounds found in the cannabis plant 鈥 including THC.

Broad-spectrum hemp extract and CBD isolates are the only guaranteed THC-free types of CBD products. Broad-spectrum contains all cannabis derivatives except for THC, while CBD isolate contains only pure CBD.

Most doctors recommend you stick to CBD isolate. This way you can be sure of exactly what you鈥檙e putting in your body. And, because there have been no clinical trials on the effects of the other 100+ cannabinoids found in cannabis, it鈥檚 probably best to limit what you consume.

What Does the Future Look Like for CBD & Breastfeeding?

mom is holding her baby

Currently, it鈥檚 difficult to apply the results of animal studies to humans. And unfortunately, it鈥檚 going to be difficult to fund more research and get concrete evidence on the subject.

Dr. Kecia Gaither, OB-GYN 鈥 Maternal-Fetal Medicine Physician and Director of Perinatal Services at NYC Health, points out that 鈥渢here would be no ethical manner in which to conduct studies.鈥

Mary Clifton, M.D., an internal medicine doctor in New York City, agrees, stating, 鈥淚f a new mom is breastfeeding, it鈥檚 probably not wise to use CBD. The medical community doesn鈥檛 support the use of CBD in these settings, because proper studies can鈥檛 be completed on the effect on the baby or infant.鈥

Consequently, it鈥檚 unlikely that the advice of consulting a medical professional and weighing the risks versus the benefits is going to change.

Final Thoughts: CBD & Breastfeeding

Much more research is needed to make a concrete claim that CBD is safe or dangerous to consume while breastfeeding. Unfortunately, it鈥檚 unlikely this will happen due to ethical reasons.

CBD and other cannabinoids will be transferred from the mother to the baby through breastmilk.

For now, it鈥檚 best to err on the side of caution when it comes to consuming any cannabis-related products while breastfeeding. It鈥檚 especially important to avoid products that contain THC 鈥 these have been proven to have a negative impact on a growing baby. THC has been shown to have negative effects.

Sometimes, because of other medical conditions, CBD may seem to be the best way forward compared with prescription medicines. However, it鈥檚 always best to consult a medical professional before taking any new supplement 鈥 especially when breastfeeding. They鈥檒l be able to advise you on the best way forward based on your individual circumstances.

Statue of Liberty with blue sky

The legality of CBD can be pretty confusing, so if this is what鈥檚 stopping you from trying CBD, then know that CBD is perfectly legal in New York.

It鈥檚 okay to possess and use CBD oil in New York even without a doctor鈥檚 recommendation, provided that its CBD came from industrial hemp with less than 0.3% THC.

CBD sourced from marijuana is also legal in New York, but you鈥檒l need to present a valid medical marijuana card before you can purchase such products.

We鈥檒l walk you through New York鈥檚 CBD laws to help you better understand them. We鈥檒l also provide tips on buying CBD oil in New York, where to find them, and what the best brands are.

Best CBD Oils in New York

  • Gold Bee CBD Oil 鈥 Leading Vegan CBD Oil

Is CBD Legal in New York?

We source CBD from hemp and marijuana, and no matter where we get CBD from, it will always have the same chemical structure.

However, what makes everything a bit confusing is its legality.

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD that came from industrial hemp containing less than 0.3% THC is legal on a federal level. This meant that New Yorkers now have access to hemp-derived CBD products as long as it鈥檚 legally compliant.

However, the CBD laws in New York were a bit restrictive. To be in line with federal laws, the state also prohibited the use of CBD in food and beverage products.

In October 2020, New York made significant changes in its CBD laws. State laws now allow residents to consume hemp-derived CBD edibles, provided that the product doesn鈥檛 contain any tobacco or alcohol and has no more than 25 mg of total cannabinoids per serving.

The state also now allows CBD vapes, tinctures, and salves, with the cannabinoid content limited to 3000 mg.

CBD products extracted from marijuana is legal in New York since July 2014, when the Compassionate Care Act was signed into law. This gave registered patients of New York access to marijuana for medical use. On a federal level, though, marijuana-derived CBD is still illegal.

To get access to marijuana-derived CBD products in New York, you need to register with the state鈥檚 medical-marijuana program and get a card. To get into the program, you must be diagnosed with one of the state鈥檚 qualifying medical conditions.

Of note, recreational marijuana is still prohibited in the state, but there are talks though that marijuana for legal use could finally be legalized in 2021.

Do You Need a Prescription to Buy CBD Oil in New York?

No prescriptions and doctor鈥檚 recommendations are needed to purchase hemp-derived CBD oil in New York. There鈥檚 also no possession limit for such products.

For marijuana-derived CBD oils with higher THC levels, you鈥檒l need to get into the state鈥檚 medical-marijuana program to have access to these products.

Do You Need a Medical Card to Buy CBD Oil in New York?

No, obtaining a medical card isn鈥檛 necessary to buy CBD oil in New York, as long as the CBD is from industrial hemp containing no more than 0.3% THC.

You鈥檒l need a medical marijuana card though if you鈥檙e going to buy and use marijuana CBD products.

Is CBD Legal in New York for Minors?

hand opens CBD Oil on a sunrise background with hemp plants

The 2018 Farm Bill made hemp-derived products accessible to people of all ages. However, if you鈥檙e going to administer CBD oil on someone below 18 years of age, we suggest speaking with their primary care physician first.

Patients below 18 years old also have access to marijuana-derived CBD products, but their designated caretaker (parents or legal guardian) must register them into the state鈥檚 program. Once approved, the designated caretaker will manage the minor鈥檚 use of medical marijuana products.

Is Traveling with CBD legal in New York?

You won鈥檛 encounter any problems traveling with hemp-derived CBD oil within New York. You should also be fine crossing state borders with such products, provided it鈥檚 sourced from industrial hemp and contains no more than 0.3% THC.

Traveling with marijuana-derived CBD products should also be fine within the state. Just have your medical marijuana card with you to avoid legal problems.

Of note, traveling with marijuana-derived CBD products out of New York is prohibited. Again, under federal law, marijuana and hemp containing more than 0.3% THC remain illegal.

Can You Fly with CBD?

It should be fine flying with hemp-derived CBD oil. Just have with you a copy of the product鈥檚 certificate of analysis that shows its THC level. Make sure, too, that its CBD is sourced from industrial hemp.

As for flying out of state with marijuana-derived products, know that it鈥檚 prohibited and can land you in heaps of legal troubles.

What Type of CBD is Right for You?

There are basically three types of CBD oils. You have pure CBD oil as well as broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oils.

Pure CBD oil, as the name implies, only contains CBD isolate. The product contains no other cannabinoids or terpenes.

Broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD oil are essentially the same since both contain other cannabinoids as well as terpenes. What makes them vastly different is the presence of THC. Broad-spectrum CBD oil doesn鈥檛 have any traces of THC, while full-spectrum CBD oil has THC in it.

For the best type of CBD oil, we recommend using full-spectrum CBD oil. It may have some THC, but the level isn鈥檛 high enough to trigger psychoactive effects.

Moreover, the presence of THC in the oil also strengthens the entourage effect. With all the cannabinoids and terpenes working together, the product becomes more potent.

Where to Buy CBD in New York?

CBD Oil in a cart and a paper bag with hemp leaf print beside it on a surfaceYou can find all three types of CBD oil in New York, be it online or in-store, but for more perks though, buy them online.

Not only is buying online more convenient, but you鈥檙e also given more CBD brands and different types of CBD products to choose from. Moreover, buying online also gives you more perks like freebies and discounts.

When buying online, be mindful of these tips.

1. Look for the Product鈥檚 COA

High-quality brands have their products tested by trusted laboratory facilities to check for the presence of residues and harmful organisms. The tests also check the product鈥檚 potency as well as purity.

In buying a good CBD oil, always look for the product鈥檚 laboratory result or certificate of analysis.

Stay away from CBD products that have not undergone laboratory testing or don鈥檛 have any COA.

2. Avoid Brands That Make Too-Good-to-Be-True Claims

Don鈥檛 buy CBD products that make too-good-to-be-true health claims. These brands aren鈥檛 law-compliant and are violating FDA rules and regulations.

Don鈥檛 trust CBD brands that offer very cheap CBD products either. The cost of production of premium-quality CBD products is definitely not cheap.

Trusted CBD brands don鈥檛 mislead their consumers by making outrageous claims, nor do they cut corners when producing their products.

3. Read Reviews

Product reviews and feedback made by real consumers can show just how good (or bad!) a CBD product is.

Stay away from CBD brands and products that received many negative reviews. If these many people aren鈥檛 satisfied with it, then you probably won鈥檛 be happy with it either.

When looking for reviews, don鈥檛 just visit the manufacturer鈥檚 website. Instead, join forums and social media sites that talk about cannabis. You鈥檒l find great information about the different CBD brands here.

Is Marijuana Legal in New York?

New York legalized medical marijuana in 2014, giving registered patients with chronic and debilitating medical conditions access to marijuana-derived products.

Recreational cannabis remains illegal in the state, but possession of 28 g or less has been decriminalized and only means a fine of $50.

How Much Marijuana Can I Buy or Grow?

Registered patients are allowed to possess up to a 30-day supply of medical marijuana products. Smokable forms of medical marijuana are not allowed.

Home cultivation for medical use is not allowed in New York.

Is Smoking Marijuana Legal in New York?

No. Smoking marijuana, be it for medical or recreational use, is not allowed in the state.

What are the Types of Marijuana Allowed in New York?

The state of New York allows the following forms of medical marijuana products 鈥 oils, tinctures, vapes, capsules, lozenges, tablets, and topicals.

New York also allows CBD-infused beverages and foods, as long as it doesn鈥檛 contain alcohol or tobacco.

Smokable forms like flowers are not allowed in New York.

When Did New York Legalize Marijuana?

Marijuana for adult use is still illegal in New York, but there鈥檚 a high expectation that recreational marijuana could be legalized in 2021.

If this pushes through, adults 21 years old and above will have access to legal weed. They鈥檒l also be allowed to buy up to an ounce of usable marijuana, but this will still depend on the rules and regulations set by the lawmakers.

With so many people using CBD to manage their health conditions these days, it’s only natural that people are wondering if it’s safe to give to their children too.

It鈥檚 safe to give CBD gummies to children, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

These include the circumstances under which you鈥檙e using CBD, the dosage, and the type of CBD products you choose.

Always speak with your child鈥檚 doctor before administering CBD 鈥 especially if they鈥檙e using any other medications or have underlying health issues.

With that aside, let鈥檚 explore how people are using CBD with their children.

Is It Safe for a Child to Take CBD Gummies?

As long as the CBD product you鈥檙e using contains less than 0.3% THC, it鈥檚 legal under federal law and won鈥檛 produce any intoxicating effects 鈥 even in children.

Some types of CBD products, such as alcohol-based tinctures, concentrates, capsules, and vapes, are not suitable for children to use.

Best CBD Gummies For Kids (Top Brand Reviews of 2022)

  • Royal CBD 鈥 Best CBD Gummies Overall
  • Gold Bee 鈥 Best Organic CBD Gummies
  • Hemp Bombs 鈥聽Best CBD Isolate Gummies

1. – Best CBD Gummies Overall

Pros:

  • Non-GMO hemp
  • CO2 extraction
  • THC-free
  • Low sugar
  • 10 or 25 mg of CBD per gummy
  • Lab-tested for quality

Cons:

  • No entourage effect from other cannabinoids

Why we recommend Royal CBD gummies for children:

Royal CBD is one of our favorite companies due to their high-quality standards. The brand offers a broad range of CBD in different formats, including the tantalizing CBD gummies that are second to none when it comes to taste. Royal CBD gummies taste like those juicy gummy bears from childhood. But unlike the regular gummies, these are made with organic ingredients and only contain 4 grams of sugar per serving. It鈥檚 not such a guilty treat considering what our children are fed with nowadays.

Royal CBD offers two strengths of its gummies: 10 mg and 25 mg of CBD, making the product suitable for both smaller and larger children alike. Both versions are vegan and free of preservatives and flavor boosters. The reason why Royal CBD scores second place in this ranking is that some of the flavorings are artificial. Other than that, it鈥檚 a great, healthy way to smuggle some CBD into your children鈥檚 routine.

2. – Best Organic CBD Gummies

Pros:

  • 100% organic product
  • Broad-spectrum CBD
  • 25 mg of CBD per gummy
  • Natural flavors and colorings
  • Vegan & gluten-free
  • Lab-tested for quality

Cons:

  • Only one strength available
  • No single-flavor options

Why Gold Bee offers the best CBD gummies for children:

When you give sweets to your children, you probably want their treats to be as natural as possible, without synthetic additives, preservatives, and flavorings. Gold Bee makes all-organic CBD gummies infused with a broad-spectrum extract, which carries all the non-psychoactive cannabinoids and terpenes, but without any THC inside.

Each gummy comes with 25 mg of CBD, making a little go a long way with your kids. Since this is a broad-spectrum extract, it evokes some of the entourage effect. As a result, these gummies are more beneficial for children than their isolate-based counterparts. The CBD extract has been made using supercritical CO2 and filtered from the chlorophyll and plant waxes to make sure the gummies won鈥檛 leave a hempy aftertaste when swallowed.

Gold Bee CBD gummies are also low-calorie and don鈥檛 contain as much sugar as some of the other gummies available out there. There are 17 grams of carbohydrates per serving and only 1 gram of sugar. The product is also vegan and gluten-free, so it鈥檚 a healthier alternative to gummies that use wheat and gelatin.

The company ensures its CBD gummies are safe for children; they come with batch-specific certificates of analysis to prove their potency and purity.

Why we recommend Hemp Bombs CBD gummies for children

Hemp Bombs is a true CBD powerhouse that offers a wide range of potencies, flavors, and formulations. The Hemp Bombs CBD gummies are available in three versions: Original, High Potency, and Sleep. The original gummies contain 15 mg of CBD per serving; the high-potency option packs 30 mg of CBD per gummy; the sleep version has been infused with melatonin to promote healthy sleep cycles.

The gummies are made from CBD isolate. On the one hand, this is good for children (and their parents) because they don鈥檛 contain any THC. On the other hand, isolate-based products don鈥檛 provide the entourage effect, which makes them a less desired format among consumers.

Hemp Bombs offers the largest number of gummies per jar, packing 100 sweet-and-sour cubes inside. The CBD extract in the gummies comes from organic hemp and has been extracted with CO2 to ensure maximum purity. This is also a great product for flavor chasers and fussy children, as there are four flavors in the jar: Green Apple, Berry, Blue Raspberry, and Lime.

Both the CBD content and the purity of these gummies are proven with batch-specific reports from an independent laboratory.

Why Parents Are Using CBD Gummies With Their Children

CBD has many health benefits. While more research is needed in this area, there’s an increasing number of studies that support the use of CBD for a variety of health conditions often experienced by adults and children alike.

CBD is used to alleviate symptoms of various conditions that affect children as well as adults, including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic pain
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Inflammation
  • Autoimmune conditions

Is It Legal to Give CBD to Children?

Although restrictions vary according to state law in the US, federal law stipulates that any CBD product with a THC content of over 0.3% is illegal (this also applies to many other parts of the world).

CBD derived from industrial hemp will never contain more than 0.3% THC, so it’s completely legal to buy, possess, and use. It鈥檚 technically legal to give it to children, but there are some blurred lines here. You should only give your children CBD if they鈥檝e received direct approval from their pediatrician.

CBD derived from marijuana 鈥 which is legal for both medical and recreational use in some US states 鈥 could contain much higher THC levels and is illegal under federal law. It鈥檚 also illegal to give to children 鈥 even in states where marijuana is legal. The only exceptions here are very rare cases in which a doctor may recommend marijuana for children with rare forms of epilepsy [].

Will CBD Gummies Make Children High?

This is one of the most important questions parents ask before giving their child CBD 鈥 and for a good reason. The answer is 鈥渘o, CBD will not make children high.鈥

CBD does have some cognitive effects 鈥 such as feelings of relaxation and sedation. It can even be used to treat anxiety-related disorders directly. However, while THC binds directly to the brain’s endocannabinoid receptors, CBD does not, so the result is entirely different from the feeling of being 鈥渉igh.鈥

Always double-check the THC content on the CBD oil you plan to use with your child to make sure it鈥檚 within the legal limit (0.3% or less). If you鈥檙e unsure, make sure to ask someone from the company to confirm. This step is essential.

What Are the Best CBD Products for Children?

CBD Gummies in Green Background

CBD Gummies for Children

CBD-infused gummies are usually the preferred way to give CBD to children. They’re very much like the gummy vitamins commonly given to children as supplements.

Gummies make it easy to provide precise and consistent doses of CBD in a format they鈥檙e unlikely to turn their nose up at. Most people buy gummies that contain a total of 5 mg or 10 mg of CBD, then cut them into smaller pieces if necessary.

Ensure that doses are supervised and the gummies are stored away in a safe, out-of-reach place (although that goes for all supplements and medicines too).

However, there are other ways of consuming CBD to consider as well:聽

CBD Oils For Children

CBD oils 鈥 the most common form of CBD 鈥 are also good to give to children, as they can be easily mixed with juice or a smoothie to disguise the flavor (which can be quite bitter-tasting and 鈥渉erby鈥).

It’s best to choose a CBD oil at the lower end of the potency range (for example, 500 mg or less). It will come in an easy-to-use bottle with a dropper top, which means you can easily measure specific doses depending on your child鈥檚 weight.

CBD Topicals For Children

This is by far the best option for any skin-related ailment, as well as sore muscles and joints. As the CBD reacts with the endocannabinoid receptors in the skin and only trace amounts end up entering the bloodstream, you don’t need to worry as much about specific doses.

This means that topicals are generally the safest way of giving CBD to children, but it’s still important to test any new skin product on a small area of the body first in case of any allergic reactions.

Lastly, companies now sell an array of creams, lotions, and salves containing CBD mixed with other beneficial ingredients, such as essential oils.

CBD Syrups For Children

Although they’re not as common as some of the other forms of CBD, syrups provide another good way to give CBD to children. They make it easy to disguise the flavor of CBD and mix it with sweet smoothies or drinks.

The downside of CBD syrup is the high sugar content 鈥 so use these products sparingly.

CBD Suppositories For Children

These are only necessary for a few conditions, such as managing inflammatory pain in the digestive tract or if CBD can鈥檛 be consumed orally. These products deliver the CBD directly to the lower digestive tract, making them ideal for recovering after hookworms or inflammatory bowel disease.

Using CBD this way is bound to be a fairly unpleasant experience for a child, so it’s best to only use suppositories when specifically recommended by your healthcare provider.

What CBD Products Should Not Be Given to Children?

Some forms of CBD should not be given to children:

1. Alcohol-based Tinctures (Avoid)

Most CBD tinctures are alcohol-based, so they鈥檙e not appropriate for children.

Bear in mind that some CBD companies label their oils as tinctures, so it’s worth double-checking the ingredients list to confirm. Any products that are made with alcohol should not be used with children.

Look for ingredients like hemp seed oil, MCT oil, olive oil, or coconut oil instead.

2. Concentrates (Avoid)

Concentrated CBD is extremely potent. This makes it inappropriate for use with children (unless under medical supervision).

Even small amounts of CBD concentrate will likely be too strong for your child, so we recommend you avoid them altogether.

3. Capsules (Avoid)

Although CBD capsules are popular for adults, they’re not recommended for children 鈥 especially those under the age of 8. This goes for most types of pills and capsules. They鈥檙e too big for a small child’s airway and can be dangerous and uncomfortable for children to use.

Gummies are a much better option because they can be chewed into smaller pieces before they鈥檙e swallowed.

4. Vape Pens (Avoid)

It should go without saying, but children shouldn’t be vaping anything at any time. Vape pens are great, but they’re for adult use only. It鈥檚 never appropriate to administer CBD via vaporizer with children.

What鈥檚 The Ideal Dosage of CBD Gummies For Children?

CBD Gummy with Board White Background

Even though CBD has been proven safe and doesn鈥檛 bring the risk of overdose or other serious consequences 鈥 it鈥檚 important to use an appropriate dose.

A child鈥檚 dose should be much lower than that of an adult 鈥 generally around 2.5 mg to 10 mg. For epilepsy, the dose may be significantly higher [,], but always follow the guidance of their pediatrician before giving CBD to your child for epilepsy.

Of course, this depends on the child鈥檚 age and weight, as well as the severity of their symptoms. It’s generally recommended that you start at the lower end of the spectrum and increase the dose slightly every day until the desired effects are achieved.

However, if you want to calculate a more specific starting dose for your child, you can use the method below.

Step 1: Determine the Adult Dose

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to dosing, even in adults. There are many variables that can affect the ideal dose 鈥斅爄ncluding the size and weight of your child, their individual sensitivity to CBD, and the severity of their symptoms.

With that said, the generally recommended dose ranges from 5 to 40 mg of CBD for adults.

A good starting baseline is 20 mg of CBD. This is typical for the average adult.

Step 2: Calculate the Equivalent Dose for Your Child

There’s a number of formulas that can be used to calculate your child’s dose using their age or weight. We’ve picked what we consider to be the best three depending on your child鈥檚 weight:

Salisbury鈥檚 Rule #1 (for children under 30 kg)

[weight in kg x 2] = percentage of adult dose to give the child

Salisbury鈥檚 Rule #2 (for children over 30 kg)

[weight + 30] = percentage of adult dose to give the child

Step 3: Determine the Dose for the Specific Product You’ve Chosen

If you’re giving your child CBD gummies, this step is easy, as all you need to do is cut the gummy according to the desired dose.

For example, if you have a 5 mg gummy and need to give 2.5 mg doses, just cut it in half.

When it comes to dosing CBD oils, it’s a little more complicated, but once you see how it works, it鈥檚 very easy to do.

Firstly, you need to work out how much CBD is in every mL of oil, as this varies significantly. For example, a 30 mL bottle of 1000 mg of CBD is going to have a lot more CBD per mL than a 30 mL bottle of 300 mg of CBD (33 mg/mL vs. 10 mg/mL, to be exact).

To find this number, divide the total CBD in the bottle by the volume of the bottle in milliliters (1 ounce is 30 mL). This will give you the potency in mg of CBD per ml of oil.

Once you know the potency of the oil you’re using, you can count the mL to get the exact dose.

For example, using the 300 mg bottle of oil (10 mg/mL), a 5 mg dose would require about half an mL of oil (half a dropper).

Final Thoughts: Is CBD Gummies Safe to Give to Kids?

Children benefit from using CBD in all the same ways as adults 鈥 and it’s perfectly safe for them to do so, as long as it’s a controlled dose given under adult supervision.

It’s important to bear in mind that children will usually need a much lower dose than adults, so make sure you start low and build up slowly until you start to see signs of improvement.

If they take CBD supplements for a long period of time, you may have to recalculate every few months. Children grow quickly!

Gummies are usually the best form of CBD to give to children. They’re easy to use, most kids accept them happily, and they鈥檙e easy to cut into smaller pieces to deliver accurate doses of CBD with every piece.

CBD oils, syrups, or topical CBD products are also excellent options depending on your individual circumstances.

If you鈥檙e looking for a quick recommendation for what to use 鈥斅爓e recommend you check out the Gold Bee CBD gummies. They have an excellent flavor; they鈥檙e made from a gluten-free, vegan-friendly gummy base; and deliver consistent doses of either 10 mg or 20 mg of CBD per piece.

Close up of Rosin CBD

Ever since cannabis products started becoming available, products offering CBD, THC, or both have become available in a growing range of varieties.

In the past, the most common products were CBD oils and raw hemp flowers.

Now, you can find CBD in just about any form imaginable. One of the rising stars in the industry is CBD rosin (sometimes called CBD concrete) 鈥 which is a special type of CBD extract.

But what is CBD rosin, exactly?

Let鈥檚 take a closer look at what it is, and how to make CBD rosin at home.

What Is CBD Rosin?

Essentially, CBD rosin is similar to other cannabis or hemp concentrates, the main difference being that while many concentrates are made using harsh solvents (which can leave nasty chemical residues). Rosin is extracted using pressure and heat but no solvents at all, resulting in greater potency and purity.

CBD rosin is highly versatile. Perhaps the most common involves 鈥渄abbing鈥 (a process that involves vaporizing your resin through a 鈥渄ab rig鈥 attached to a water pipe, which many people prefer because it is one of the fastest, most powerful delivery methods).

You can also smoke CBD rosin in a pipe, roll it into or apply it to the outside of a joint, or use it in creating CBD oils, tinctures, edibles, topical creams, or virtually any other product.

The Benefits of Using CBD Rosin

Now, among the many CBD product types on the market, what are the benefits of using rosin?

Besides its extreme versatility, many CBD users choose rosin because it鈥檚 a particularly health-conscious option. While CBD products are often extracted using hydrocarbons such as butane or propane, rosin is entirely free of chemical solvents during extraction.

In addition to CBD, this method also retains a range of compounds such as terpenes, CBC, CBG, CBN, and various fatty acids, all of which deliver a range of health benefits.

What鈥檚 more, solvent-free CBD rosin tends to have a better taste than other extraction processes.

Next up 鈥 how to make CBD rosin.

You might think that it takes a lot of fancy equipment and master鈥檚 degree-level know-how to make rosin. But you鈥檇 be wrong. In truth, all you really need is a mechanical press, CBD-rich cannabis flower (or any other cannabis/hemp material such as stems, leaves, shake trim, etc.), and some parchment paper.

Let鈥檚 start by taking a look at the press. In theory, you can use any food-grade mechanical press, just like those used for squeezing oil from olives. But there are also presses on the market that is specifically made for cannabis products, and these can be helpful to ensure the best possible combination of pressure and temperature.

If you鈥檙e working under a budget, a simple countertop oil press will get the job done. The benefit to these is that they鈥檙e inexpensive, easy to use, and take up very little space.

If you really want to get serious about making your own CBD rosin, your best bet is to get a press that鈥檚 designed for cannabis products.

PurePressure, for example, is a reputable company that offers a wide range of both manual and automatic presses, as well as a variety of other helpful pressing tools.

Choosing Hemp Flower for Making CBD Rosin

Hemp Flower White Background

The next essential element is, of course, the cannabis or hemp from which your rosin will be pressed.

While you鈥檒l get the most rosin from the buds or 鈥渇lower鈥 of the plants, you can actually use any part of it 鈥 stems, trim, shake, kief, and so on 鈥 in the pressing process. So feel free to pack it all in: waste not, want not.

Unless you want your rosin to have psychoactive effects, you鈥檙e going to need to specifically seek out cannabis strains that are high in CBD but almost entirely free of THC.

A few popular strains that are packed with CBD but have less than 0.3% THC include:

  • Charlotte鈥檚 Web
  • Harle-Tsu
  • Suzy Q
  • Ringo鈥檚 Gift
  • ACDC
  • Remedy
  • Harlequin
  • Sour Space Candy
  • Cherry Wine

If all else fails, contact your nearest dispensary, and they鈥檒l point you toward the right plant.

Keep in mind that the dryness of your plant matters. Your goal should be to find plant material that is as fresh as possible, which will not only result in greater retention of healthy compounds but often tastes better too. The drier flower will also reabsorb some of your rosins, resulting in a lower yield.

What is the Best Temp to Heat CBD Rich Rosin?

Before we dive into the actual process, a quick word on heat.

Heat is a key part of the rosin pressing process, but it鈥檚 essential that you keep the temperature without a specific range.

Too cool, and you鈥檒l limit your yield.

Too hot, and you鈥檒l burn off all the healthy CBD and other compounds.

So what is the best temp to heat CBD-rich rosin presses?

Your goal should be to maintain a temperature between 160 and 220 degrees for somewhere between 45 seconds and five minutes. Finding a specific temp and time depends on factors like which strain and press you鈥檙e using, as well as your personal taste and potency preferences.

You can raise the temperature as high as 330 degrees, which will result in greater yield but less potency. So if you鈥檙e looking for a larger quantity of more subtle rosin, this is the way to go.

Start out by creating small batches of rosin, and try out different temperatures and times to determine the best ratio. Keep track of factors like temperature, time, strain, and plant material weight so that you can not only track results and adjust as necessary but so that once you do find your preferred recipe, you can replicate it with ease.

How to Make CBD Rosin at Home?

Rosin Hemp Plant on Parchment Paper with Dab Tool

Now without further ado, on to the actual process for making CBD rosin:

Step 1: Prep the Material

Prepare your plant material by breaking it up into small pieces. Make sure there鈥檚 a somewhat uniform ratio of flowers to stems to trim between batches to ensure consistency. Feel free to play around with the levels, and document any adjustments.

Step 2: Back The Material Into a Mesh Bag

If your press came with a mesh bag, pack it with the plant material, then place this on a piece of parchment paper. If you don鈥檛 have a bag, no worries, just place the plant material directly onto the parchment paper. The only downside to this is that you may end up with some plant material leftover in your rosin.

Step 3: Set the Temperature

Use the manual to set the temperature and pressure on your press correctly, then allow it to heat. Place the bag or parchment paper between the pressing plates.

Step 4: Start Applying Pressure

If you鈥檙e using a manual press, crank it down to the desired pressure. If it鈥檚 automatic, simply set it to press. Some automatic presses have built-in timers; otherwise, relieve the pressure after the desired amount of time.

Step 5: Remove The Bag

If you鈥檙e using a mesh bag, remove the bag and set it aside. The rosin should be left behind in a thin, semi-translucent, sappy layer. Now scrape the rosin from the paper using the tool included with your press, a paint scraper, a knife, or anything else that will get the job done.

Step 6: Storing Your Rosin

Ideally, you鈥檒l store your rosin in a glass container. This makes it easier to handle than when stored in plastic (to which it tends to stick), and it ensures that no potentially harmful plastic byproducts will leach into your rosin. If you鈥檒l be bringing your rosin on the go and you鈥檙e worried about breaking a glass container, silicone is a good alternative.

If you only plan on storing your rosin for a few weeks, it should be pretty stable, so you won鈥檛 have to worry about losing potency. But if you鈥檒l be storing long-term, be sure that it鈥檚 kept in an airtight container someplace cool and dark.

Final Thoughts on CBD Rosin

There you have it 鈥 your very own homemade CBD rosin. It鈥檚 perfect for smoking or making edibles, and properly stored will hold its potency for months or even years.

At this point, CBD is legal in most states and countries, but there are still a few that have resisted the CBD call to health. Be sure to check your local regulations.
